"We Honor the Dead by Helping the Living”
Who We Are
Established March 26, 1926, Sandy Coor Post No. 1433 has served the Glendale community for nearly a century. Named in honor of Marine Corporal Sandy Coor, who gave his life in service to our nation in 1919, the Post remains committed to service, advocacy, and remembrance as part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Our Mission
We foster camaraderie among veterans of overseas service, advocate for earned benefits, support military families and active-duty service members, and preserve the legacy of service and sacrifice for future generations.
Community Impact
Post 1433 provides direct support to veterans through benefits guidance and referrals while actively engaging in community outreach. Through partnerships such as Operation Homefront, we support military families with programs including Holiday Meals for the Military, Back-to-School Brigade, Toy Drives, and Star-Spangled Babies. We also engage youth through programs like Troops in the Classroom and JROTC initiatives.
Signature Events & Traditions
Our Post proudly conducts Veterans Day ceremonies, flag raisings, Missing Man Table ceremonies, and dignified flag retirement ceremonies. We actively participate in Memorial Day observances and recently celebrated our Centennial, March 28, 2026, marking 100 years of service and community impact since our Charter on March 26, 1926.
Partnerships & Collaboration
We work closely with the City of Glendale, the Mayor’s Military Mission (Triple "M”), West Resthaven Park Cemetery, Veterans Community Project, Operation Homefront, military units, and local schools. These partnerships strengthen our ability to serve veterans and the broader community.
Facility & Community Hub
Our Post serves as a welcoming gathering place for veterans and the community. With capacity for up to 150 guests, kitchen and canteen services, and a central Glendale location, our facility supports events, meetings, and community functions.
Leadership & Governance
Post 1433 operates under VFW National Bylaws, the Manual of Procedure, and Post policies. We emphasize transparency, fiscal responsibility, and member-driven decision-making through regular monthly meetings.
Why It Matters
The VFW is more than an organization—it is a lifelong network of service and support. Post 1433 serves as a bridge between generations, honoring the past while supporting today’s veterans and military families.
